Position Summary: This professional position serves as the centralized point of contact for all Multidisciplinary Staffing’s which include the child, family, natural and community supports, and professionals who collaborate to empower, motivate, and strengthen the family and develop an individualized plan best suited for their needs. This position convenes MDT’s for all youth dually involved with the DCF and DJJ to identify and meet the needs of dually involved youth and family and access the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS). This position serves as the Special Interest Unit Supervisor, overseeing dependency cases within the agency. This position will ensure all necessary staffing’s occur within established time frames, include all relevant team members, allows for all members to have voice and input, address child safety, permanency, and well-being. As the Special Interest Unit Supervisor, this position will adhere to the BFP System of Care principles of practice and provides family centered strength- based assessment, planning, linkage, coordination, and advocacy for children and families. The Supervisor works as a team member with key partners including parents, family members, foster parents, caregivers, guardian ad litem, DCF Protective Investigations, CLS attorneys, therapists, providers, and other appropriate professionals.

Technical/Functional Expectations:

  • Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Point of Contact-Essential Function: This position is responsible for bringing together a diverse group of individuals for the purpose of allowing better engagement with families and a share commitment and accountability. This position is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and facilitating MDTs for all initial placements, changes in physical custody, changes in educational placement, placement decisions involving siblings, and other complex important decisions related to the child. Ensures the MDT conduct an assessment before formulating a decision. In cases where there is not a unanimous consensus the Department will make a best interest determination and report to the court within established time frames.
  • Transition Plans: Coordinate, track and ensure completion of transition plans for all: LOHC placements, siblings, education within the required time frames. Ensure that all transition plans are documented and uploaded in FSFN.
  • Separated Siblings: Coordinate, schedule and review all separate siblings minimally every quarter to assess for barriers to placement together and ensure sibling visitation is occurring and contact is being maintained in other ways.
  • Customer Service: Work with clients and families to trouble shoot and assist with problem solving. To ensure client satisfaction.
  • Other duties as required: Job performance requires fulfilling other incidental or related duties as assigned, assisting, and training others, and performing duties of higher rated positions from time to time for developmental purposes.
  • Safety: Conduct, Develop, Monitor and Manage family functioning assessments, child safety assessments and required safety plans.
  • Permanency: Identify and develop plan to successfully achieve permanency for children placed in out-of-home care.
  • Engagement: Adherence to the local SOC values, goals and priorities for Brevard’s children, youth and families; Utilize a family centered strength based approach to care; Monitor quality of care by ensuring face-to-face home visits with children are completed minimally every 30 days, or with increased frequency as determined by case situations and supervisory direction; facilitate, monitor, and assess visitation between children, parents, and siblings to ensure safety and observe interactions.
  • Support: Provide support to staff, children, caregivers, and family members to assure stable placement and timely achievement of permanency; Coordinate cases with team members, providers, DCF and attorneys as needed.
  • Court Appearance and Preparation: Ensure staff have reviewed case information prior to every hearing to be prepared to answer any questions from the Court regarding the status of the case, services, and progress towards permanency; Dress appropriately for Court appearances and ensure all court hearings are attended timely by self or assigned staff.

Business Experience:
  • Valid Driver's License-Essential: This position requires a valid driver’s license
  • 2 years’ experience in child welfare or human svc experience: This position requires at least 2 years of experience in the intake of children in the child welfare system or human services field.
  • Computer skills required: This position will be required to work in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Excellent Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills: This function requires the ability to independently assess, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding placement and services for children in licensed out of home care.
  • Facilitation of meetings-Essential: Experience in coordinating and leading team meetings.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skill: This is required to effectively partner with various stakeholders and agency staff.
  • Strength Based Family Practice Orientation: This is required to effectively support the system of care and values.
  • Strong communication skills: This is essential to develop written summaries and recommendations for distribution within the system of care.
  • Intermediate to advance level skills in MS Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity, and comfort using databases to populate and evaluate data, make case notes, and pull data.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • BA/BS required in human services related field.
  • Masters preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years related experience in child welfare required.
  • Child Protection Certification required
