JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Assisted Living Director, the Activities Assistant assists with activities designed to enhance the physical, social, spiritual, and mental well-being of each resident. The Activities Assistant respectfully interacts with all residents, family members, visitors, colleagues, and staff. This is a safety sensitive position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists with and conduct activities with the residents as directed by the Assisted Living Director- Facilitates Resident Council meetings and maintains the minutes
- Assures resident safety
- Sets up and cleans up areas as needed for various activities
- Encourages residents to participate in activities
- Observes resident participation and responses during activities and report to nursing and supervisor as necessary
- Distributes mail to residents daily
- Distributes monthly activities calendar
- Announces activities and play music over the system
- Maintains accurate documentation of resident’s activity attendance
- Keeps office and storage areas tidy and organized
- Attends in-service trainings and meetings as scheduled
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
ESSENTIAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
The essential mental and physical functions listed below are required in order for an employee to be able to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to read and write, follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively in English.
- Thinking critically; defined as reading, understanding, and taking appropriate action on detailed and complex information
- Walking long distances daily
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
- Pushing a wheelchair with a resident weighing up to 200 lbs
- Repetitive actions/motion of one or both hands
- Hearing ordinary conversation and office sounds
- Verbal communication in person and on the phone
- Written communication by hand and on PC
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- Creativity and imagination
- One or more years of experience in recreational or occupational therapy related areas preferred
- Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy which includes, but is not limited to, Microsoft Office suite
