Summary:
The Life Enrichment Assistant implements the community’s Life Enrichment activities and events for Independent/Assisted Living and for the Memory Care program (Inspiritás) under the direction of the Life Enrichment Director (LED) or assignment from the Inspiritás Coordinator (LEC). The LEA serves as a knowledgeable and creative resource to the LED/LEC in regard to understanding and addressing the specific needs of residents. He/she performs job duties with an upbeat, helpful, and positive attitude and in timely fashion to ensure no interruption to planned activities or events. The LEA also maintains necessary records for compliance and reporting as directed by the LED.
Reports to and is supervised by the Life Enrichment Director (LED)
Receives specific activity/event assignments from the Life Enrichment Director and Inspiritás Life Enrichment Coordinator
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains a working knowledge of all RUI policies and procedures pertaining to the position, the department, and the personnel.
- Implements a varied and innovative Life Enrichment program to enhance the emotional, social, physical, spiritual, and intellectual well-being of the residents as directed by the Life Enrichment Director or assigned by the Inspiritás Life Enrichment Coordinator.
- Leads and assists resident activities as requested with minimal supervision while implementing appropriate modifications to assist residents with physical, sensory, or cognitive impairments.
- Encourages residents to participate in Life Enrichment programs with an upbeat, helpful, and positive attitude.
- Assists residents as necessary when going to and from activities.
- Organizes, coordinates, and accompanies residents on special outings as necessary.
- Contributes to Life Enrichment activity/event planning by bringing knowledgeable suggestions or community resources to the attention of the Life Enrichment Director and/or Inspiritás Life Enrichment Coordinator.
- Assists in advertising/promoting programs by preparing and posting daily notices, posters as required.
- Arranges chairs, tables and sporting or exercise equipment in specified areas for scheduled group or one-on-one activities.
- Utilizes Resident Engagement Tracking procedures accurately with minimal supervision.
- Actively participates in the Community Ambassador program and presents the Oral History to the new resident as directed by the Life Enrichment Director or Inspiritás Life Enrichment Coordinator.
- Takes photographs during activities/events as directed by the Life Enrichment Director or Inspiritás LEC and ensures timely transfer to Life Enrichment Director without violating HIPAA
- Assists with collecting video/photo releases as necessary at all activities/events.
- Ensures all Life Enrichment areas are maintained in a clean, functional, and orderly fashion.
- Helps maintain equipment as necessary.
- Drives the community van as needed.
- Attends required in-services and staff meetings.
- Actively participates in educational opportunities to improve the service delivery to residents with dementia (for Inspiritás only)
- Complies with all applicable local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Serves as a resource and positive example of RUI’s Life Enrichment Values for all employees, residents, volunteers, and visitors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent and related work experience.
- Demonstrate fundamental understanding of dementia and related disorders and competency in service delivery to residents (for Inspiritás only)
- Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing, follow instructions and direction, interact with residents of varying backgrounds and abilities, remain cheerful and calm under stressful situations, and work as a team member.
- Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and exert up to 25 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
- Must have the ability to identify community resources.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Must have safe driving record. A copy of Division of Motor Vehicle Driving Record must be given to the Administrator.
- Preferably should have, or be eligible for, a Virginia Commercial Driver’s License.
- Must have strong customer service and hospitality skills as it relates to both residents and their families.
