GENERAL PURPOSE:
As a Vitality Medication Aide, you will provide direct care to our senior residents following a personalized medication and treatment service plan. Medication Aides will assist in maintaining the physical, social and psychological environment that supports the best interests and welfare of our residents. As per state regulations and completion of required training/certification, administer or assist with self-administration of medication and treatments as prescribed by the health care provider and observe/report responses to existing treatment plans. In addition to assisting residents with medications, Medication Aides will maintain cleanliness of medicine supply room, audit medication carts and provide accurate accounting of all medications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers and maintains prescribed medications and treatments for residents
- Attend to the needs of residents, which includes assistance with activities of daily living (i.e. personal hygiene, grooming, feeding and ambulation, medical monitoring and other health care related tasks)
- Record vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
- Presents medication to a resident as prescribed by their physician and as permitted by state regulations. Observe ingestion or other application or administer medication.
- Maintain a liaison with the residents, their families, support personnel, etc., to assure that the residents’ needs are continually met.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Wellness Director.
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have current CPR/First Aid certifications
- Must have Medication Tech Certification from a state approved program.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Meet state or provincial health related requirements.
- Maintain any certification as required by state or provincial regulations.
